You’re reading Outfit Anatomy, a feature series that dives into personal style and detailed outfit breakdowns. Our contributors share the stories behind each item in their carefully curated ensemble, from the sentimental value and monetary cost to how and why they acquired it.
In this edition, illustrator Lea O’Hara spills the beans on her favorite wide-leg pants of the moment. She also shares a few hidden gems where you can score second-hand treasures (beyond her grandma’s closet). So, keep scrolling if you’re all about the thrill of a good thrift find.
At the moment, my closet is brimming with second-hand items from thrift stores and my very trendy grandmother who hoards clothing from the 60s (not complaining). While I don’t think I have a particular style, I do enjoy pairing a wide-legged/flared bottom with a tight-fitting top, like the look I’m breaking down here!
I’m wearing a halter-neck top from a brand called FOX9. I thrifted it from the TwoWorlds thrift store at Golden Landmark for around $20, which I think is quite a steal because of how unique the material is! The material is similar to that of a swimming costume—stretchy and waterproof, but so soft and comfy. I love how this top goes with pretty much anything and can be dressed up or down.

I got my pants from one of those Retro Market pop-up thrift stores at Bugis. As you can see, it is from Push Push, a Vietnamese brand. Since it was brand new, it was $60. What drew me to this pair of pants was its unique, balloon-like silhouette—one of the more adventurous ones I’ve worn—that makes it seem baggy at first glance. But the firm material and well-tailored waist actually give it a surprisingly structured form, creating an intentionally playful vibe!

Next is my trusty pair of Dr Martens sandals. If you know me, you can probably guess that I’ll show up in them (almost) all the time. They’re so versatile, comfortable, and easy to slip on, especially when I’m rushing out of the house. I got them from Taiwan because, sadly, there are no more physical Dr Martens stores in Singapore. I snagged them at $180 since they were on sale.
This handbag was thrifted from an Instagram shop (@wywrdvtg). It doesn’t seem to have any brand name, but I bought it because I was drawn to its tri-colour design. The color blocks and metal buckles give it somewhat of a retro vibe, which I absolutely love. It was $45—quite a steal!
For my jewelry, I tend to stick to a few staple pieces, like this necklace from some Etsy store and these green rings. I can’t exactly remember where I got them from; two of them are from Bali and Taiwan, while the others were thrifted/gifted! I don’t spend a lot on accessories…maybe $40 max for a piece?

Overall, my outfit probably costs around $400, though the Dr Martens sandals contributed to about half of it. I guess I really don’t mind spending more on unique finds. My philosophy is that when you’re thrifting and spot something that immediately catches your eye, snap it right up because you never know when you’ll see it again!
