Remember Chef (2014) by Jon Favreau? Well, that film actually cemented my belief that food trucks are trucking cool. I often find myself salivating over videos of the popular trucks in New York, Los Angeles, and Portland. This is why even though I’m no food critic, I couldn’t pass up on an invitation to check out Singapore Food Festival 2025‘s Food Truck City Tours, which is taking place just this weekend.
My long journey to Downtown East was worth it because look at all the goodies I got to sample (listed in chronological order of the tasting):
#1. Wagyu Beef Rendang ($16.80)

Located at the Heritage Truck
What a strong opener this was! While the beef rendang is a simple local dish, this was very competently executed.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that the tender beef and fluffy rice went well with the crisp pickled vegetables.
In fact, I got so excited that I forgot that the camera eats first and went in for the first bite before taking any photos (oops).
Verdict: 8/10
#2. Nyonya Pandan Cloud ($7.50) & Matcha Pandan Cloud ($8.50)

Located at the Contemporary Truck
It was a scorching hot day—beautiful weather for Wild Wild Wet, which was just nearby. But since I was not heading to the water park, boy was I glad when the drinks finally arrived. They were refreshing and exactly what I needed, not to mention a treat for the eyes.
These flavors are exclusive to the Food Festival and I highly recommend the Nyonya Pandan Cloud since the pandan notes tasted sweet yet not overly rich.
If you’re a matcha lover, you’ll probably enjoy the Matcha Pandan Cloud, because the tea slightly overshadows the pandan.
Verdict: 9/10 for both
#3. Masala Crispy Prawn Tacos ($16.90)

Located at the Innovation Truck
Some might say tacos and food trucks are a perfect pairing. Instead of the traditional corn tortilla, the Crispy Prawn taco comes wrapped in a light, airy dosa. It’s an unorthodox combination but it works, especially with the crunchy purple cabbage.
The batter was, wait for it, perfectly crispy. And the prawns had a firm, toothsome bite just as you’d hope. The laksa sauce was not too spicy and slightly on the watery side, but that made sense as it was meant to complement the tacos.
Verdict: 8.5/10
What can I say? I love seafood tacos.
#4. Singapore Satay Sando ($18)

Located at the Contemporary Truck
The art of the sando is one many strive to perfect, and Singapore certainly has its fair share of excellent contenders. Case in point, Hello Arigato.
Of course, I had to try the Satay Sando. It was an SG60 Exclusive, after all. Stacked with onions, sweet peanut sauce, and satay chicken, it was good, though I’m probably more used to enjoying satay in bite-sized pieces.
I would have loved to try their Tamago Sando, which was the other option given. Since I had this last, maybe I was just too full to truly appreciate it.
Verdict: 7.5/10
#5. SG Soft Serve ($3.80)

Located at the Contemporary Truck
The very last thing I ate was soft serve from Sweet 11:11, a Sydney-based brand, and it was the perfect conclusion to the meal. The honey added a natural sweetness that paired beautifully with the creamy vanilla-flavored soft serve.
By this point, the heat was overwhelming, so I headed indoors to enjoy the soft serve before it melted.
I took bites of the soft serve while trying my hand at indoor golfing at GreenBox by My Golf Kaki. I was glad for the activity, because I was absolutely stuffed by then. Overall, it was a hearty feast that left me well and truly stuffed.
Verdict: 7.5/10
While I didn’t take any photos of it, I also took a few sips of the Allumea Grillo Chardonary Sicilia DOP Organic 2022—one of the many premium wines from NTUC Club’s My Wine & Dine Kaki located at the Bar on Wheels Truck.
Each glass costs $11 during happy hour (11am–7pm) and $14 in the evening (7–9pm). The other highlights available include
- Roche Mazet Cabernet Sauvignon
- Allumea Nero D’Avola Merlot Sicilia DOP Organic 2024
- Hãhã Sauvignon Blanc
- Antica Murrina “Premo” Vino Rosato 2022
Drop by in the evening for a hearty spread of food served under the stars—I’m sure the vibes hit differently once the sun goes down. If you do make it there, let me know what you end up trying!
